  DANGER DANGER DANGER
Making a SUICIDE electrical cable can be very dangerous.  It can kill you, your kids or your dog or cat.  It has exposed electricity at both ends.   You should have a certified electrician a Generator Transfer Switch to your local codes to allow you to easily power your house from a generator or inverter.  To power your entire house you'll need to feed the electrical panel with 240 volts from a generator.

Leviton 931 30/50 Amp, 250 Volt, Plug, Angle, Grounding, Black $17.26
If you are going to make a suicide cable to back feed your house 240 volts from a generator, then as discussed in the show, a DANGEROUS option is to back feed the house through your 240 volt electrical dryer plug.  Make sure the main breakers to the house are OFF or you could back feed the entire neighborhood and KILL a line man trying to repair the damaged lines.  Then you are going to prison for murder or man slaughter.   You'll have to get the connectors or cables that match your generator and electrical dryer or stove outlet.   The SAFE and LEGAL way to do this is with a Generator Transfer Switch installed by a certified electrician.

Reliance Controls L1430P L14-30P 30 Amp Generator Power Cord Plug For Up To 7,500 Watt Generators $6.05
This would be the connector that plugs into most of the generator 240 volt connectors.

Reliance Controls PB30 L14-30 30 Amp Generator Power Cord Inlet Box For Up To 7,500 Watt Generators $41.07
Instead of having a 'suicide' cord like I talked about in the TSP Show on Generators and how hook up your generator to your house, through all methods both dangerous and illegal to the correct and legal ways of doing it, this box is the start of one of the ways of doing it 100% legal and to code....but you have to have an interlock on your panel to prevent this socket from getting energized....because you can stick your fingers in here if its energized and get shocked to death, the idea is, this socket is dead, and you are plugging in from your generator to this socket and into the electrical panel of the house. There are 3 DETAILED PHOTOS of this box installed in a house with a generator, click the link and LOOK at them.

Leviton 4937 Weatherproof Inlet on Flush Mount Wallplate with Aluminum Cover, Straight Blade Receptacle, Gray $9.99
This is a SOCKET, its got male plugs in the INSIDE under the cover, you can plug in the SAFE FEMALE side of an extension cord into it and back feed your hose...but WARNING... if you have this hooked up while your house is on the grid, then you have a SUICIDE SOCKET.  Kids can open it and put their finger into it and get electrocuted.   You can use the DPDT switch below to make it SAFER, but NOT 100% Safe.   Thanks to the guys on the TSP Board making this suggestion.

GB Electrical GSW-16 Heavy Duty Toggle Switch $7.38
You can use this switch to make the above socket safer, the socket will only be connected to your house/circuit when the switch is thrown into the ON position and you'd only do that after a power failure and the main breakers on the panel are OFF (always OFF)... but this can still be dangerous if kids are around, because if the switch is thrown when there is power, then the above socket is live.   Thanks to the guys on the TSP Board making this suggestion.

Reliance Controls L1430C L14-30C 30 Amp Generator Power Cord Connector For Up To 7,500 Watt Generators $18.33
If you were going to start to make a cable that was NOT a suicide cable, then you'd use one of these female connectors and it would plug into the Power Cord INLET box ABOVE.  Please make sure you have a certified electrician help you make the cable that goes from your generator to your inlet box.

Reliance Controls PC3040 40-Feet 30-Amp L14-30 Generator Power Cord for Up to 7500-Watt Generators $99.99
This  is the L1430 cable you would use to plug into the 240 Volt AC outlet of your generator and INTO the above Inlet Box.

The above is the 40 foot cable, this link is for the 20 foot cable $68.00

Reliance Controls TCA1006D Panel/Link 100-Amp Utility/60-Amp Generator Transfer Switch For Up To 15000-Watt Generators $99.99
I have a video below of a big huge 200 amp transfer switch so you can see what it looks like, this is the smaller more modern version of the SAME THING.  Smaller, cheaper, does the same thing, switches out the entire box from the grid and over to the generator.  This is the correct way to do it with the Inlet Box and the Power Cord ABOVE this.

DuroMax XP10000E 10,000 Watt 16 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric Start $999.00
This generator is 240 volts, as well as 120 volts, its got very high ratings and feedback on Amazon, this is a 10KW generator so it will power your entire house through the transfer switch above and the inlet box and cables.  I do not own this generator but I would personally buy one based on the price, the output and especially the reviews on Amazon.  I own a $1000+ Honda EU2000i, but I recognize that is not an option for all of you, so I put this up here for you.  You are getting 10kw for the same price I paid for the Honda EU2000i, that is because the Honda is a 'inverter generator' and this is what I call a 'regular generator' make sure you listen to my TSP show on generators.

DuroStar DS4000S 4,000 Watt 7.0 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator $299.99
A simple, regular generator, like I talked about on the show, at a good price, with very good reviews on Amazon.   Its 120 volts ONLY so it CANNOT be used to feed the above panels and inlet connectors.  You'll have to use extension cords to do it the 'safe' way.  I do not own this generator but I would personally buy one based on the price, the output and especially the reviews on Amazon.  I own a $1000+ Honda EU2000i, but I recognize that is not an option for all of you, so I put this up here for you.

Conntek 20611 Generator Power Cord 25-Foot 10/4 30 Amp 125/250 Volt 4 Prong Male Plug To 15/20 Amp Female Connector $85.99
Like Jack says, do NOT go cheap on your power cables, its something you WILL regret and keep your power cables for your generator and emergencies in a dedicated box next to your emergency power setup. THIS cable is for going from the 240 output of your generator and it splits it into TWO seperate 120volt AC circuits.  If you are not using the 240 volts to feed your entire electrical panel (listen to the show!) then you'll want some extra 120 volt AC output.  This will augment the 120volt AC that is already coming off your generator.
